Conviction in Randi Light's Tragic Murder Provides Family with Relief

On Friday, Clarence Reed Jr. received a conviction for first-degree murder in the tragic death of Randi Light.

Investigators assert that Reed perpetrated a brutal assault, resulting in the untimely demise of Light, who was his girlfriend. This grim incident occurred at their residence on Southwest 23rd Street in Des Moines in February 2022.

Jerrie Redington, Light's mother, expressed that the guilty verdict and subsequent life sentence for Reed offer a measure of solace to her and her family. She stated, "Justice was served."

Redington disclosed that there were warning signs within their relationship, including her never having met Reed throughout the two years he was involved with her daughter. "I didn't see my daughter or talk to my daughter much. That's a red flag," Redington pointed out.

Reflecting on the tough months between her daughter's tragic passing and Reed's conviction, Redington expressed the difficulty of knowing that her child suffered multiple stab wounds. She noted that with each passing day, it becomes a bit easier to find moments of joy and laughter when reminiscing about her daughter — a daughter she wishes could have learned the hallmarks of a healthy relationship.

"I came from a domestic relationship. She watched it for years," Redington revealed.

Clarence Reed Jr. is scheduled for sentencing on November 9, facing a mandatory term of incarceration.
