Honolulu Police Arrest 19-Year-Old Woman for Suspected DUI in Aiea Crash

A 19-year-old woman has been taken into custody by Honolulu police after allegedly being involved in a DUI-related crash in Aiea early Saturday morning, resulting in a male victim being hospitalized in critical condition.

According to Honolulu police reports, at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Saturday, the 19-year-old woman was purportedly driving under the influence of alcohol, heading in the wrong direction on the Hickam overpass while traveling southbound. This led to a collision with a vehicle operated by a 28-year-old man, who was traveling northbound.

As a consequence of the impact, the man lost control of his vehicle. It struck the concrete wall, subsequently vaulting over it, and ultimately landing upside down along the H1 West Freeway Arizona Memorial off-ramp beneath the overpass, as per police statements.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services swiftly transported the injured man to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The 19-year-old woman was also transported to an area hospital, albeit in serious condition. Subsequently, she was placed under arrest for allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence, according to police reports.

While alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the collision, it is currently unclear whether drugs or excessive speed were contributing factors.
