Man Identified in Fatal I-235 Accident; Police Seek Information

 


Des Moines, Iowa - Authorities have identified the man who tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 235. Derrius Robinson, 27, was hit by a vehicle on Monday morning between Guthrie and Euclid avenues. He was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A preliminary investigation conducted by Des Moines police has not found any fault with the driver involved, as stated in a release issued on Wednesday.

Des Moines police are urging anyone who was driving on I-235 in the specified timeframe to come forward with information. They can contact the DMPD Traffic Unit at 515-323-8382 to assist the ongoing investigation.

According to the most recent data from the Iowa Department of Transportation, the state has witnessed 270 fatalities on its roads this year, marking an increase of 30 compared to the same period in 2022. Over the past five years, an average of 338 lives have been lost annually in crashes across the state.

The DOT also reports that sixteen pedestrians have lost their lives in accidents this year, slightly lower than the 17 recorded last year.
