Providence Man Sentenced to 30 Months for String of Bank Robberies

Providence, Rhode Island - A 24-year-old man from Providence, Dashawn Diaz, has been handed a 30-month prison sentence for a spree of five bank robberies that occurred within a five-week period in 2022.

U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Cunha revealed that Diaz carried out three of these bank heists in a mere three-day span. The sentencing, delivered in U.S. District Court in Providence on Monday, marks a significant development in this case.

U.S. District Court Judge Mary S. McElroy has additionally decreed three years of supervised release for Diaz, and he is obligated to reimburse nearly $16,000 in restitution to the targeted banks, as per a statement released by Cunha's office.

Back in March, Diaz entered a guilty plea to five counts of bank robbery. He confessed to robbing Santander Bank twice in Providence and perpetrating additional robberies at a Citizens Bank in Providence, one in Pawtucket, and at a TD Bank branch in East Providence, according to the official statement.
