NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Friday morning, authorities at McGavock High School took a student into custody after school administrators and a resource officer discovered a firearm in the student's possession, as reported by Metro Nashville Public Schools.
Prior to the search, administrators received a tip alerting them to the situation, according to MNPS spokesman Sean Braisted. Following the tip, a search was conducted on the 17-year-old student, leading to the discovery of a concealed 9-millimeter handgun in the student's waistband, as confirmed by the police. The student was taken into custody without any resistance and subsequently charged in juvenile court.
"Bringing a firearm to school is a zero-tolerance offense and a serious violation of law," emphasized Braisted. "We appreciate the school administration acting on the information received in order to keep students and staff at the school safe."
