Ogletown, DELAWARE -In the early hours of Thursday morning, an Ogletown neighborhood was gripped by tragedy following a domestic shooting that claimed the lives of two individuals, including the assailant, while leaving one man injured but alive.
The incident, which unfolded in the Newark Oaks development on Leader Drive, saw a 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman lose their lives. The assailant, also 34, confronted the woman and her male guest upon arriving home around 12:40 a.m. The ensuing confrontation resulted in the fatal shooting of both the woman and her guest.
The injured guest, able to call for help, reported the incident to emergency operators. First responders quickly arrived at the scene, where they spotted an armed man through a window. As officers approached, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the assailant and a one-year veteran of the force. Thankfully, no officers sustained injuries, and it remains unclear whether the assailant was hit.
Additional units, including the Special Weapons and Tactics Team, were dispatched to the location. They entered the residence and discovered the deceased woman and the injured guest, who was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. While authorities did not provide specific details regarding his condition, they confirmed he was in stable condition.
The Crisis Negotiation Team made efforts to establish communication with the armed man but were unsuccessful. As a precaution, residents in the vicinity were issued a shelter-in-place order, and several roads were temporarily closed.
Tragically, SWAT team members later located the assailant within the residence, where he had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was declared deceased at the scene.
Following these developments, the shelter-in-place order was lifted, and authorities assured the public that the situation was under control. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
