Tragic Altercation Ends in Fatality Outside Charleston Charity

Charleston, WV — A distressing incident unfolded outside a Charleston charity, resulting in the loss of a man's life after an altercation took a tragic turn. While a second individual was initially under investigation, authorities have confirmed that no charges will be pressed against him.

According to Lt. Tony Hazelett of the Charleston police, the incident transpired shortly after 1 p.m. at Manna Meal, located at 1105 Quarrier Street. Both parties involved engaged in a dispute, prompting the staff to request their departure from the premises.

Hazelett detailed that the confrontation subsequently escalated to the parking lot, where 27-year-old Jackie Cummings from Duck drew a knife with the apparent intention of using it on the other individual. In response, the second man purportedly pushed Cummings, causing him to fall to the ground.

Tragically, the knife struck Cummings' leg, resulting in a fatal injury.

Hazelett confirmed that the case will be forwarded to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office for thorough examination and review.
