Mitchell, INDIANA — A distressing incident unfolded in Lawrence County, resulting in the arrest of a local woman on charges of murder after two young children, aged 1 and 3, were discovered deceased within a residence in Mitchell.
Indiana State Police were called in to assist with the investigation, collaborating with detectives from ISP’s Bloomington post. The Mitchell Police Department reported the grim discovery around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, revealing that a 3-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl were found lifeless at a residence in the 1200 block of Brook Street.
Brittany Medina, a 33-year-old woman, was identified as the suspect in the case and subsequently taken into custody on two counts of murder. She has been booked into the county jail, as confirmed by officials from Lawrence County’s Jail Division.

The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office promptly responded to the scene and facilitated the transfer of the children's bodies from Mitchell to Bedford. Autopsies have been scheduled for both victims.
