Jerome County authorities have disclosed details surrounding a fatal vehicular incident that took place in the early hours of Saturday near Hazelton.
As per an affidavit obtained from Jerome County public records, on September 16th, law enforcement received notification of a fatal crash, potentially involving a homicide, at 2650 East 1200 South.
According to the affidavit, 20-year-old Braxton Streling was camping with his parents and had consumed some alcoholic beverages.
Streling informed detectives that around 4 a.m., he left the campsite in the company of a friend. He asserts that during this time, his friend expressed a desire to run through a nearby cornfield.
The affidavit states that Streling brought the car to a halt, and both individuals proceeded into the cornfield. It was during this excursion that Streling allegedly lost sight of his friend, prompting him to initiate a search.
While waiting, he reportedly engaged in spinning reverse maneuvers with his vehicle. Tragically, during this maneuver, he inadvertently struck and fatally injured his friend.
The affidavit confirms the deceased as 20-year-old Peyton Walton.
Braxton Streling was subsequently taken into custody on charges of vehicular manslaughter. He has since posted bail.
His preliminary hearing is set for September 28.
