Iowa City, IOWA - First responders swiftly reacted to two separate accidents occurring in rural Johnson County on Tuesday afternoon.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reported that the initial incident took place around 12:38 pm in the 2200 block of Black Diamond Road SW in Oxford. According to officials, a 2008 Ford Escape was traveling westbound when it veered across the center line while negotiating a right-hand curve. Subsequently, it collided head-on with a 1994 Mack Dump Truck.
Law enforcement confirmed that one driver tragically lost their life in the collision, while another received treatment for minor injuries.
The second crash unfolded at the intersection of Eagle Avenue SW and Rohret Road SW, involving a vehicle rollover. Notably, a deputy was part of this incident, sustaining minor injuries. The deputy was promptly treated and subsequently released from a local hospital.
Both incidents are currently under thorough investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
