Unionville Resident Charged with Attempted Murder and Assault on a Peace Officer

 


Appanoose County, IOWA - A 37-year-old woman from Unionville, identified as Kalie Hutt, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing multiple shots at another resident, leading to a stand-off with law enforcement.


The incident unfolded on September 23rd, 2023, when the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call from the 16100 block of 331st Ave in Unionville. According to reports, a woman had discharged a firearm at another individual. Deputies promptly responded to the scene, encountering Hutt in the yard, brandishing a handgun towards one of the deputies.


Following this confrontation, Hutt fled into nearby wooded areas. After approximately 40 minutes of negotiations proved unfruitful, law enforcement personnel deployed a 'conducted energy device,' successfully apprehending Hutt. 


Officials have stated that the altercation stemmed from a dispute over property, during which Hutt allegedly fired a minimum of three .22 caliber rounds at the other resident. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained during the incident.


As a result of her actions, Hutt now faces charges of Attempted Murder and Assault on a Peace Officer while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. The case is currently under investigation by the Appanoose County authorities.
