Woman Charged with Third OWI in Five Weeks Following Crash Injuring Toddler on Far East Side, Madison Police Report



In a concerning development, a woman finds herself confronted with her third Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) charge within a span of just five weeks, coupled with child neglect allegations, as detailed in a report by the Madison police.


The incident in question transpired on the Far East Side and involved a crash on Sunday, which resulted in injuries to a toddler, according to statements provided by Madison police spokesperson Stephanie Fryer.


The collision unfolded at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, in the vicinity of Commercial Avenue and Sprecher Road. Subsequent investigations revealed that the woman had rear-ended another vehicle.


Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers encountered both the woman and the child outside of the vehicle. Officers detected the unmistakable scent of alcohol emanating from the woman, and further inspection of the car unveiled two empty mini bottles of liquor, as reported by Fryer.


The toddler was subjected to a medical assessment by paramedics to evaluate his injuries and was subsequently released into the care of a family member. Meanwhile, Child Protective Services was promptly notified of the situation, according to Fryer.


The 35-year-old woman underwent medical clearance at a hospital and was subsequently transported to the Dane County Jail, where she faces charges related to OWI and child neglect. It is pertinent to note that her previous OWI infractions in the past five weeks occurred outside the city of Madison, as emphasized by Fryer.
