Arrest Made in Hit-and-Run Incident Involving Toddler in Georgetown County

 


Georgetown County, S.C. — The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of a man connected to a hit-and-run incident that left a toddler injured on Sunday.


The incident unfolded when a truck struck a 2-year-old on Harmony Hills Drive just prior to 7 p.m., as stated by sheriff’s office spokesman Jason Lesley.


Following the collision, the driver of the truck fled the scene, leaving the injured toddler behind. The child was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment.


The suspect, identified as Florentino Cruz-Guerrero, 42, was apprehended by sheriff’s deputies in the Harmony Hills neighborhood and subsequently handed over to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. According to Lesley, Cruz is facing charges of driving under the influence and driving without a license.


Currently, Cruz is in custody at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
