Cyberpunk 2077 Achieves Over 25 Million Copies Sold, Outpacing The Witcher 3

CD Projekt, the developer behind the ambitious sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077, has announced that the game has exceeded 25 million copies sold to date. This significant milestone comes nearly three years after the game's original release.

CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński shared this achievement with investors, comparing it to the company's previous hit, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which took four-and-a-half years to reach a similar sales level.

Kiciński remarked, "The phenomenal Witcher 3 achieved a similar level in 4.5 years, and here [in Cyberpunk’s case], a little bit over two years [since its release], so we are selling far faster than we were selling the Witcher game," as reported by VGC.

In addition to this impressive sales milestone, CD Projekt's CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz, revealed that Cyberpunk 2077's first and only DLC, Phantom Liberty, achieved remarkable success, selling three million copies in its debut week after its release on October 26th. Of this figure, 68 percent of sales were on PC, with ten percent on GOG, and the remaining 20 percent and 13 percent on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, respectively.

Nielubowicz emphasized the significance of this accomplishment, stating, "To contextualize this, we estimated how many gamers now have the main game on PC or the new consoles—all the platforms that allow you to play it—and it's 20 million." He continued, "20 million players who either have the main game or have updated the old-gen version to the new-gen version. So, 15% of all the gamers within one week bought the expansion."

This remarkable success is seen as just the beginning, with CD Projekt anticipating ongoing growth in sales for the popular RPG title.
