CRANSTON, R.I. — Unofficial results, as announced by the Rhode Island Board of Elections, have confirmed Democratic candidate Daniel Wall as the winner of the special election. Wall is set to assume the role of representative for Ward 6 in the Cranston City Council.
Wall garnered an impressive total of 840 votes, securing a lead over Republican candidate Anthony Melillo, who received 627 votes. Independent candidates Robert Lancia and Marc Bochner received 95 and 91 votes respectively.
This victory marks a significant transition for Wall, who steps in to fill the position left vacant by former City Councilman Matt Riley. Riley's departure was prompted by his resignation, which followed an arrest on drug-related charges in May.
Following his arrest, Riley was subsequently remanded without bail after a court appearance regarding child molestation charges in June. Wall's win in this special election is expected to bring fresh perspectives and leadership to Ward 6 of the Cranston City Council.
