Indiana Umpire Faces Multiple Felony Charges in Child Exploitation Case

 


WARRICK COUNTY, Indiana — An 18-year-old male is confronting a series of serious felony charges after being accused of photographing children in a restroom while employed as a Little League umpire.


According to court records from Warrick County, Stephen Custer of Newburgh, Indiana, is charged with five counts of child exploitation, three counts of possession of child pornography, and five counts of voyeurism. Following his arrest, Custer has since been released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond, as indicated by records.


Although the indictment against Custer has recently been filed, the incident itself took place on May 22, 2022, as reported by WFIE Channel 14. Deputies from the Warrick County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a baseball field after receiving reports of a parent engaging in a physical altercation with an umpire.


According to WEVV Channel 44, the wife of the parent informed deputies that her husband confronted Custer when their child emerged from the restroom, claiming Custer had taken photographs of him while he was inside.


During their investigation, authorities examined Custer’s cellphone, uncovering 22 files related to child sexual abuse and seven files associated with voyeurism, as detailed by WFIE. Additionally, numerous videos were discovered, recorded within boys' restrooms.
