Major Multi-Vehicle Collision Under Investigation on I-84 in Elmore County

 


Mountain Home, Idaho — Idaho State Police are currently conducting an inquiry into a significant collision involving ten vehicles. The incident took place at around 2:12 PM on Sunday, October 1, 2023, on Interstate 84 at milepost 78, situated west of Mountain Home in Elmore County.


The initial report indicates that a 2015 Volvo semi-tractor, towing a commercial trailer and driven by a 36-year-old male from Auburn, WA, was heading westbound. Unfortunately, it failed to stop in time while approaching a construction zone with slowed traffic. As a result, the semi-truck collided with nine other vehicles on the Interstate.

1. A 2015 Volvo semi-tractor, pulling a commercial trailer, driven by a 36-year-old male from Auburn, WA.

2. A 2011 Ford Escape operated by a 62-year-old male from Meridian, ID.

3. A 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 40-year-old female from Boise, ID.

4. A 2020 BMW 740 operated by a 42-year-old male from Meridian, ID.

5. A 2021 Toyota Highlander driven by a 45-year-old female from Boise, ID.

6. A 2018 Toyota Rav4 driven by a 56-year-old male from Washington, DC.

7. A 2023 Kia Niro driven by a 56-year-old female from Pingree, ID.

8. A 2018 Chevrolet Cruze operated by a 55-year-old female from Nampa, ID.

9. A 2006 Ford F150 driven by a 45-year-old male from Boise, ID.

10. A 2022 Freightliner semi-tractor, pulling a commercial trailer, driven by a 74-year-old male from Boise, ID.


Following the collision, the female driver of the Kia and the male operator of the 2022 Freightliner semi were transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance.


Emergency responders worked tirelessly for approximately four and a half hours to aid those involved and clear the scene. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing under the purview of the Idaho State Police.
