Resolution Reached for Derecho-Damaged Building in Newton, Iowa

A resolution has been achieved regarding a building in Newton that remains in a state of disrepair following damage caused by a derecho.

Business proprietors have reported ongoing disruptions to their daily operations due to the spillage of damage onto the street. In response, the city initiated legal action in 2021 against the owner of the building, urging them to either undertake necessary repairs or proceed with demolition.

The settlement agreement was officially filed on Monday.

In an attempt to gather additional details, KCCI has made inquiries to both parties involved. However, as of now, no responses have been received.
